Blessings of Hope That Can Be Yours!

Hope is essential to a solid Christian faith, and yet, it is often the most challenging part to hold on to. Likewise in a world full of diversity and sin, Christians may find their hope in God failing. But the Bible provides advice on keeping hope and faith strong in believers.  Read on to find hidden blessings of hope.

Faltering faith and failing hope are discussed frequently in the Bible. The word of Jesus, the apostles, and the Kings and Judges of Jerusalem is full of advice on praying for finding and having hope that we will explore in this article.

What Does the Bible Say About blessings of hope?

    The dictionary details hope as:

Noun: The feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best: to give up hope.

Verb: To look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence. To believe, desire, or trust.

The Bible contains countless accounts defining and detailing hope. Further, defined biblically, ‘to hope’, ‘to wait’, and ‘to believe’ are actions integrally combined. In Mark, we see that Mark 9:23 “All things are possible for one who believes,” and this verse captures the essence of hope.

Thus, hope is waiting and having faith in the Lord’s actions, plan, and promise. These Bible verses capture what it is to hope in biblical terms:

    Hope Verses in the Bible

    Hebrews 11:1 ESV

Hebrews 11:1 explains to us what faith and hope are. This verse gives us a definition to live by and understand: Faith “is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” More importantly, faith “is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

    Matthew 7:7

Matthew 7:7 reminds us that when we need hope, we only need to “ask, and it will be given to you;” but so often we forget simply to ask.

    Hebrew 6:19-20

Hebrews 6:19-20 reminds us that God is the “sure and steadfast anchor of the soul,” and that God truly is “hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.” Therin, we discover that God both gives and is hope.

    Romans 5:1-4

Romans (5:1-4) indicates that “we have been justified by faith,” which provides us with “peace with God” thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Indeed, it is because of Jesus’s sacrifice, we have “access by faith…and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

Romans also reminds us that “we rejoice in our sufferings,” because it produces “endurance…character…” and that character “produces hope.”

Biblical Figures Who Exhibited Hope in God

    Noah (Genesis 6:22)

Noah maintained hope in the Lord, sending his dove out to seek land during the great flood. Moreover, he never wavered in faith and knew the Lord would save him and his family. He had hope in God’s promise and kept his end of the bargain, doing all that God commanded of him.  Consequently, Noah knew he had found blessings of hope.

     Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 17:16)

Abraham and Sarah faced barrenness and could not have children. However, their hope in God never failed, and Sarah eventually became pregnant with Isaac. Sarah would go on to be “a mother of nations.”

    Moses (Exodus)

Moses went up against the superpower of Egypt with hope and trust in God. In the wilderness with his people, Moses kept his hope that God would deliver them, and God sent manna and guided them to the land of milk and honey.

    Even More Faithful Biblical Figures

    David (Psalms 25:4)

David depended on God. God was his strength and refuge, and when David sinned, he turned to God for deliverance. Furthermore, he stood against Goliath with hope in God, he stood against King Saul with hope and trust in God, and he led his people the same way.

    Esther (Esther)

Esther became Queen of Persia when Jews were set to die at the hands of the empire. By extension, her faith and hope in God allowed her to save her people and free them from the Persian Empire’s threat.

    The Blind Men of Matthew

When the blind men came to Jesus begging for healing, he said to them, “According to your faith be it done to you.” Indeed, their hope and faith in Jesus and God healed them.

Lord, I pray for joy and peace in my faith. Bless me with the presence of your Holy Spirit to fill me so that I can find peace and assurance in your presence. Amen.

A Prayer to Find Hope (Why We Hope)

    Biblical Context

Remember 2 Corinthians 4:18 when you need to find hope. This verse reminds us that we must hope in things unseen, because the physical world around us is temporary. In short, we cannot see Heaven, but we know that Heaven, though unseen, is eternal.

    Prayer

Lord, remind me to fix my eyes upon you and not the physical world. I pray for the wisdom to see what is temporary and look forward in hope towards the promise of your eternal love. Amen.

A Prayer for Blessings of Hope and Strength

    Biblical Context

Turn Deuteronomy 31:6 for guidance on hope and strength. Deuteronomy reminds us to “be strong and courageous,” and to not fear because God is with us and does not ever leave us behind.

Also, look to Isaiah 40:31 to remember the strength in our hope. Isaiah tells us that God will “renew” the strength of believers and give us “wings like eagles,” and provide endurance and strength to keep going in all moments of weakness and trouble.

    Prayer

Lord, you will not abandon me. Remind me of your enduring love, that it would fill me up with strength and hope. In you, I am strong, and in you, I will have faith. Amen.

A Prayer for Hope in Times of Loss and Pain

    Biblical Context

The apostle Paul has a beautiful message for Christians seeking hope in 2 Corinthians. Use 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 to guide your prayer for hope during grief. In fact, Paul reminds us that “our inner self is being renewed day by day,” in God.

The verses remind us that our trouble on this earth is a “momentary affliction,” that prepares us for Heaven. He reminds us to look for the unseen, the eternal things of God and Heaven.

    Prayer

O Lord, this life is temporary. Give me strength and hope to endure this momentary affliction. Like Paul, I pray for your blessing and reminder of the eternal life that awaits us all.

Though this world has pain and loss, Heaven does not. You blessed me with comfort, knowing that one day I will live in Heaven without suffering. Thank you for the blessing of hope in your love. Amen.

A Prayer for Hope and Comfort

    Biblical Context

So often, we Christians turn to hope to find relief and comfort from the sin and pain in the world.

Look to Hebrews 6:19, which reminds us that God is the anchor to our soul, and grounds us when the seas of life become stormy. Also, remember David’s Psalm 119:114 that reminds us that God is both our refuge and hiding place and our shield in times of trouble.

    Prayer

Lord, be with me, anchor my soul. Bless me with your presence. I hope and pray for your protection. You are my shield and my refuge; I pray for your safety to wash over me, for your comforting spirit to embrace me. Thank you for the blessing of your protection. Amen.

A Prayer for Blessings of Hope in the Moment

    Biblical Context

King David often called out to God for hope in a moment of adversity or struggle. For example, when you need hope in the moment, remember Psalm 71:5 “For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.”

    Prayer

God, you are my hope, and you are mighty. Indeed, my hope cannot fail because you cannot fail. Bless me with your strength, for I am human and can fail. I give thanks for your eternal presence and put my trust in you to guide me and give me hope in this moment. Amen.

A Prayer for Hope Against Adversity

    Biblical Context

Christians face adversity every day from Satan. But we can find safety and endurance against adversity in our hope in God. It’s important to remember that the Bible is a Christian’s roadmap guiding us through the bumps of life.

When life gives you dangerous or difficult detours, turn to Romans 15:4, which states that through “endurance and…the encouragement of the Scriptures” believers can find hope and strength.

    Prayer

Lord, help me stand firm against this adversity. You have provided scripture to guide us through life’s difficulties and give believers hope. I pray for your continued guidance and blessing of endurance. Amen.
