Prayer for Depression and Hopelessness

Hopelessness can be all-consuming. There are times when it feels like there is no way to crawl out of the pit. Look here for a prayer for depression and hopelessness.

In these dark times, we turn to God for guidance. Here are a few prayers that can help ease the sense of hopelessness. Take comfort in the words of the Lord and those who have traveled down the same path as you.

    Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

No matter how hopeless you feel, God is always with you. At your weakest point, he will give you strength.

    Matthew 5:3–12

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Part of the beatitudes, the foundation for the rewards that await those who follow Christ. Know that those who feel hopeless, the kingdom of heaven will be yours. For those who have felt loss or are grieving, God will comfort them.

St Dymphna Offers a Place for Prayers for Depression and Hopelessness

The saint of anxiety and depression, St. Dympha, offers counsel and guidance for anyone struggling with the hopelessness that comes with anxiety and depression. Call upon her for those who struggle with such needs.

“Good Saint Dymphna, patron saint of the mentally ill, I humbly implore your powerful intercession with Jesus through Mary, the health of the Sick, in my present need. (Mention it.) Saint Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to them for me and obtain my request.”

St Ignatius of Loyola – Prayer Against Depression and Hopelessness

One of the founders of the Jesuit mission, Saint Ignatius’s influence is unquestionable. Having endured depression himself, he felt the same as you. In his darkest moments, he turned to God.

    O Christ Jesus

    When all is darkness,

And we feel our weakness and helplessness,

Give us the sense of Your Presence,

    Your Love and Your Strength.

Help us to have perfect trust,

    In Your protecting love,

    And strengthening power,

So that nothing may frighten or worry us,

    For, living close to You,

    We shall see Your Hand,

Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

Hopefully, these prayers provide you with the guidance and comfort needed to soothe your depression. Remember, you are never alone. God is always with you. Even in your darkest moments, he will be there to lift you up.
