    Bible Scriptures on Faith

Faith is the foundation of Christianity – faith in God and His promise of everlasting love and eternal life. There are numerous Bible scriptures on faith from stories in the Old Testament.  Most are about God providing miracles for those who believed in the testimonies of salvation performed by Jesus Christ in the New Testament.

Why Was Abraham Named the Father of Faith?

The first great example of faith in the Old Testament is Abraham, the father of nations. God saw what a good and faithful man Abraham was.  Thus, He promised Abraham that his descendants would be too numerous to count. Even so, God tested Abraham’s devotion several times.

A child was promised by God to be born to Abraham and his wife Sarah.  Surprisingly, this was promised even though she was one hundred years old and barren. However, Abraham believed, and it came to be.

God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac even though doing so would forfeit Abraham’s line from continuing. Without question, Abraham proceeded to begin to sacrifice his son.  Soon, when God saw how faithful Abraham was, He stopped the sacrifice at the last moment.

According to Genesis 15:6, “Abram believed the Lord. The Lord was pleased with Abram because he believed. So, Abram’s faith made him right with the Lord.”

    What Proved Daniel’s Faithfulness?

Daniel was a man faithful to God. His faith was put to the test when the ruler of the land decreed that no one should exult any other king or deity besides himself. But Daniel continued to pray to God.  When he was discovered, he did not hide his actions.

Daniel had faith that God would not allow him to be punished by men for staying true to his promises. The king had Daniel thrown into a pit of hungry lions. By God’s hand, Daniel was spared. According to Daniel 6: 23b, “And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”

His faith in God was so inspirational that the king declared that everyone should worship Daniel’s mighty God from that day forward.

Why Is Mary a Good Example of Faith?

The mother of Jesus is one of the ultimate examples of faith in the Bible. Scripture tells us that she was visited by the archangel Gabriel. Moreover, Gabriel soon informed her that she had been chosen by God to be the mother of the Messiah.

Mary had faith in God’s plan and accepted the great honor of carrying the Son of God in her womb. Indeed, this was despite never having had relations with a man and also knowing the consequences of bearing a child “out of wedlock.”

The faith that God would provide for Mary and protect her and her child is a perfect example for all Christians. Because of God’s goodness, Mary’s faith becomes even stronger. She proclaims to her cousin Elizabeth in the gospel of Luke 1:48b-49.  It reads “From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name.”
